Bora Bora, French Polynesia - SPOT-6
This SPOT-6 satellite image was acquired on 12 September 2012, three days after the satellite was launched, and shows the island of Bora Bora in French Polynesia.
Bora Bora, which means "first born" in Tahitian, is an atoll in the leeward islands. The island is surrounded by a wide lagoon and a fringe of coral reef, with an extinct volcano in the centre. Bora Bora is a popular tourist destination, chosen for its bungalow hotels dotted along the lagoon.
