Disaster Impact Map - Port-au-Prince, Haiti, after Hurricane Sandy
This Disaster Impact Map, produced from Pleaides images acquired on 19 July and 02 November 2012, shows an area of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, affected by flooding after Hurricane Sandy.
During the night of the 23-24 October 2012, super-storm Sandy hit Haiti with intense downpours and violent winds causing flooding and a great deal of damage.
54 people were killed and 21 reported missing. Many dwellings, infrastructure and fields were destroyed. A country-wide state of emergency was declared on 30 October.
This map highlights the impact along the River Grise in Port-au-Prince. In many places the flood provoked catastrophic riverbank changes, sweeping away over 200 dwellings into the river.
