Typhoon Hagupit had been downgraded from Super Typhoon status at the time MetOp-B acquired this view at 01:03 UTC on 05 December 2014.
This natural colour RGB image shows Typhoon Hagupit on its approach to the eastern coast of the Philippines, where it made landfall on the following day.
Hagupit struck the far eastern island of Samar on 06 December with winds of 210 km/h (130 mph) - just over a year after the country was devastated by Super Typhoon Haiyan. Twenty-seven people died and there was widespread damage.
