This MetOp-A image, acquired at 00:34 UTC on 29 April 2014, shows Typhoon Tapah in the Pacific Ocean.
The image was acquired by the satellite's AVHRR instrument, and shows the storm on the day it strengthened to Typhoon status.
The storm formed on 28 April, and there were concerns that the typhoon would pose a threat to Saipan and Tinian in the Mariana Islands. But Tapah, moving in a northerly direction, shifted further to the east than forecast, and spared the Mariana Islands from any damage or injuries.
By 02 May the storm had dissipated over the ocean.
