Job description

The research group Climate and Environmental Remote Sensing of the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation of TU Wien is seeking a motivated University assistant (postdoc) in microwave remote sensing (f/m).

To support research, TU Wien are looking for a postdoctoral project assistant with a strong technological interest to develop remote sensing based approaches for quantifying the impact of climate and humans on terrestrial ecosystems. The selected candidate will develop and use novel global (microwave) remote sensing products of soil moisture and vegetation for climate research. Apart from doing research, the candidate will support the team in the application and coordination of projects funded by third parties (e.g. ESA, EU) and support teaching activities.

Required skills

  • Doctoral degree (PhD) in geodesy, environmental sciences, physics, climate sciences, information sciences, physics, physical geography, geoinformation, meteorology, or similar
  • Experience in (microwave) remote sensing
  • Profound programming skills (e.g. Python, R, Matlab, C++)
  • Experience in academic teaching
  • Proven track record in international peer-reviewed journals


  • Experience in machine learning
  • Experience in (eco-)hydrological modelling
  • Experience in model-data integration
  • Strong statistical background
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
  • Experience in the application and coordination of projects funded by third parties (e.g. ESA, EU)
