Ten commercial Earth observing satellites launched aboard Minotaur-C rocket

Returning to service after a six-year hiatus, Orbital ATK's revamped Minotaur-C rocket soared into space on 31 October from California's Central Coast with 10 commercial Earth-imaging spacecraft for Planet, a San Francisco-based company with a globe-spanning satellite fleet mapping the world's land masses every day.

European Commission boosts European Earth Observation capabilities to better serve our society

The European Commission has launched a new initiative to strengthen the European component of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (EuroGEOSS). Thanks to EuroGEOSS, Europe will have access to even more advanced Earth observation services tailored to its needs. This will benefit citizens and businesses by enabling, for example, better protection against natural disasters, more efficient response to climate change, improved management of energy resources, or stronger promotion of sustainable agriculture.

Conference overview:

The 15th Specialist Meeting on Microwave Radiometry and Remote Sensing of the Environment (MicroRad 2018), is an international forum for presenting recent achievements in instrumentation and engineering as well as scientific applications of microwave radiometry. MicroRad 2018 is sponsored by the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Microwave Remote Sensing Center (MRSC-CeTeM) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Proceedings from the MicroRad conference will be archived by IEEE in IEEE Xplore. A special issue/section of the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (JSTARS) is planned for the publication of original and peer-reviewed papers presented at the meeting.
