News of the week
Returning to service after a six-year hiatus, Orbital ATK's revamped Minotaur-C rocket soared into space on 31 October from California's Central Coast with 10 commercial Earth-imaging spacecraft for Planet, a San Francisco-based company with a globe-spanning satellite fleet mapping the world's land masses every day.
Earth Observation Missions
01 November 2017
To help understand drastic changes in tropical storm patterns, Blue Canyon Technologies (BCT) will build a constellation of CubeSats for an observing system for NASA to measure environmental inner-core conditions for tropical cyclones.
01 November 2017
NASA is preparing to launch the Joint Polar Satellite System-1, or JPSS-1, satellite on behalf of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide essential data for timely and accurate weather forecasts and for tracking environmental events such as forest fires and droughts.
Research and Applications
03 November 2017
A new, long-term and global dataset of soil moisture measurements from space has been released to help us better understand the water cycle and climate, monitor agriculture and manage our water resources.
Policy & Legislation
23 October 2017
The European Commission has launched a new initiative to strengthen the European component of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (EuroGEOSS). Thanks to EuroGEOSS, Europe will have access to even more advanced Earth observation services tailored to its needs. This will benefit citizens and businesses by enabling, for example, better protection against natural disasters, more efficient response to climate change, improved management of energy resources, or stronger promotion of sustainable agriculture.

Location: Massachusetts, USA
The 15th Specialist Meeting on Microwave Radiometry and Remote Sensing of the Environment (MicroRad 2018), is an international forum for presenting recent achievements in instrumentation and engineering as well as scientific applications of microwave radiometry. MicroRad 2018 is sponsored by the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Microwave Remote Sensing Center (MRSC-CeTeM) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Proceedings from the MicroRad conference will be archived by IEEE in IEEE Xplore. A special issue/section of the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (JSTARS) is planned for the publication of original and peer-reviewed papers presented at the meeting.
EO Missions Database
Visit the eoPortal database to find out about spaceborne EO missions and sensors to discover more about past, operational and future missions. This is complemented with detailed articles of airborne sensors.
This database is based on the book of Herbert J. Kramer Observation of the Earth and its Environments and describes over 600 missions in detail. Online updated version of "Earth Observation History of Technical Introduction" available as of January 02, 2017.
