Continuing to share a vision, the two organisations have signed a statement that will strengthen Europe in meteorology and climate monitoring, and that will help to take the Copernicus programme into the future.

The European Commission has launched a new initiative to strengthen the European component of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (EuroGEOSS). Thanks to EuroGEOSS, Europe will have access to even more advanced Earth observation services tailored to its needs. This will benefit citizens and businesses by enabling, for example, better protection against natural disasters, more efficient response to climate change, improved management of energy resources, or stronger promotion of sustainable agriculture.

ESA and Enterprise Ireland have signed an agreement that gives Ireland access to data from the Copernicus Sentinel satellites and helps Ireland to exploit these data to benefit their country.

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have agreed to collaborate to further their common goals, particularly the use of space-based technology for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The plummeting cost of satellite data in the past decade has made earth observation (EO) and geospatial information more attractive than ever for addressing poverty, monitoring environmental changes, and stimulating economic growth – among other objectives. It is especially valuable in developing countries, which often do not have adequate monitoring systems to track progress on the Sustainable Development Goals and other global and national goals.
A new era in satellite meteorology offers unprecedented opportunities to improve Earth observations and understanding, but also poses big challenges for users worldwide. A top-level World Meteorological Organization delegation outlined WMO's strategic perspectives at the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Satellite Conference 2017.

The Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS) held its 45th plenary session on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea, on 15-16 June. The World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) Vision for the Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) in 2040, which is currently being prepared, was one of the major items discussed.

Rome became the epicentre of the European Space sector this week, as the eternal city hosted the high-level event 'Space Policy for EU integration' organised by the European Commission.
The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) through its Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT) and Radiant.Earth, have agreed to explore new Earth observation data innovations supporting humanitarian disaster management, global health, climate change, sustainable water management and cultural heritage.
On 02 June 2017, the JRC, represented by Director-General Vladimir Šucha, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), represented by its President, Professor Bai Chunli, signed a Research Framework Arrangement. The ceremony took place in the framework of the EU-China Summit 2017.

On 15 May, 2017, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) held the Inter-Agency Meeting to strengthen and deepen the bilaterall cooperation, on the occasion of Prof. Dr. Johann-Dietrich Woerner's first visit to Japan as the Director General of ESA. JAXA and ESA announced the joint statement concerning the result of the meeting and the establishment of the joint working groups in the mutually specified areas, at the joint press conference after the meeting.

WASHINGTON — As Planet announced it has completed its acquisition of rival satellite imaging company Terra Bella on 18 April, it confirmed that Google is now a shareholder in Planet as part of that deal.
