A new way of Land Cover Mapping on a global scale
27 June 2019
The globalisation of the world's economy and the increase of its population has significant environmental consequences and puts pressure on land management the like of which has never been seen before. The health of our land is a foundation for economic activities as well as for the preservation of our ecosystems.
The Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS), one of the six Copernicus Services, provides an important contribution to improve sustainability and efficiency of land use. Moreover, sustainable use of natural resources is an objective that requires global action. Therefore, CLMS produces a series of qualified bio-geophysical products on the status and evolution of the land surface at global scale through its Copernicus Global Land component. This information is accessible free of charge globally and is widely used for the benefit of a diversity of applications useful for public and private organisations and citizens around the globe.
